We’re down on the field for halftime, and we’ve got TGN Partner MrGoldenSports, our resident expert on all things Madden, here with us to answer a few questions about his favorite games, his passion for gaming, and his love of the Madden community. Take it away, MrGoldenSports:
Q. Do you have a favorite video (that you created)? Why?
A. I have a few videos of me and my son interacting and commentating together on them. I’ve done about 4-5 of them so far,and they are my favorite. They are my favorite because I love being able to take what I am passionate about, which is gaming, and being able to involve my son(who’s 4).
Q. What is your favorite video game of all time? Why?
A. My favorite game of all time is Sonic 3. I remember as a kid playing Sonic 3 all day and night. It was the only game I remember feeling like I can not go a day without playing it. That was literally the game that took me from “liking” video games, to LOVING video games.
Q. What’s your favorite YouTube trending video right now?
A. I honestly love Vine videos. They’ve become such a huge success on YouTube lately, and I can find myself losing an hour of time just watching Vines. I enjoy then because of the creativity. It amazes me how people can make such an entertaining video, only being 7 seconds.
Q. How did you get started on YouTube? What was your inspiration for starting a channel?
A. Me and a buddy started a group channel back in 2010. It was going well for a little bit, but then we decided to go our separate ways. My inspiration was truly just wanting to show people my good gameplay. My YouTube “success” has come from the game of Madden NFL. I ALWAYS had really good games, and just wanted to share them.
Q. What is your favorite video capture program? Audio capture?
A. I enjoy the Elgato. Very simplified, easy to use, and amazing quality. My favorite audio capture device is the Blue Yeti. Crystal clear audio is always the way to go.
Q. If you were to become a video game character for a day, who would it be? Why? What would you do?
A. I would want to become Sonic for a day. ^_^ I would want to be Sonic because he’s my favorite video game character of all time. I would run around going nuts! Start running 125 mph for no reason, just because I can and I’m Sonic, and when I get tired or lazy, I’d have tail fly me around.
Q. Walk us through your typical work day. How do you allocate your time between playing games, video creation and building your community?
A. Typical work day includes me waking up, editing anywhere between 5-7 videos in the morning, getting the commentary done, and the render process, and upload them to YouTube. I then stream on Twitch daily for a good 3-5 hours. I feel like streaming on Twitch allows me to do all three things which is, video creation, building my community, and playing games. The games I stream, I then upload to YouTube.
Q. What is your greatest YOLO moment?
A. My greatest YOLO moment would have to easily be me quitting my job and doing YouTube full time. It was a HUGE risk, but I’m blessed enough to say it panned out.
Q. For aspiring gaming YouTubers, what is your best advice for success? What are the top things to avoid doing?
A. MY BIGGEST ADVICE IS… NEVER, and I mean NEVER, do videos in HOPES to gain subscribers. Never sit at the computer desk saying to yourself, “What I can do to get more subscribers with my videos?” I truly believe in making videos to keep the subscribers you already have, HAPPY. If you keep the people who are already subscribed to you happy, the rest will take care of itself. My advice for something that you MUST avoid is doing anything sub or sub-related. All it does is fabricate your numbers, and makes your subscriber to view ratio look really bad. EARN your subscribers the right way, which is by sharing your passion for gaming.
Q. Any shout outs for your community?
A. Madden has been growing on YouTube tremendously, and I’m honored to know that I was a part of that. Back when I started my Madden gameplays, we had less then 10 total commentators. Now,we have so many people sharing their passion for the game, and I love it! I enjoy seeing Madden on YouTube grow each and every single day.
Q. How do you choose which games to play on your channel? Do you go more for what’s trending or do you stick to games you love to play?
A. I choose what people want to see from me. My success has come from Madden, so I continue to produce what I know people subscribed to me for. Sure I dabble in other games every now and then, but I always stick to what I have become known for, which is creating Madden commentaries.
Q. How are you liking NFL Madden 15? Are you missing those multi-player matches, or was that never really your thing?
A. I’ve always loved Madden. I can honestly say, I’ve NEVER been disappointed by any of their titles. I love football, I love gaming, and Madden allows me to do both.
Q. Who’s your favorite player from NFL Madden 15?
A. My favorite Player is JJ Watt.
Q. If you could have one NFL player on the cover of the next Madden, who would it be and why?
A. I would choose Patrick Willis. He’s my favorite player on my favorite team (San Francisco 49ers).
Q. What’s the most ridiculous team you’ve ever put together, either for a real tournament or for fun?
A. I’ve used an all bronze squad. Which involved me using pretty much the lowest overall player at each position for my ultimate team.
Q. Any fun cheats or bugs that you’ve seen lately (like big heads or people with their bodies in hilarious, compromising positions)?
A. I have yet to see anything of that sort.
Q. We also see that you enjoy some NBA2K15 on your channel, which has only recently come out! How are you liking it so far?
A. I enjoy playing 2k as it’s a break from Madden, and I enjoy it because it’s always refreshing. I play Madden a good 30 hours a week, so switching in 2k every now and then definitely is refreshing. I can easily say I’m enjoying 2k15 every time I play it.
Q. Have you totally scanned your face into the game? How’s that customizable player working out for you?
A. I have not done that. I have yet to actually reveal my face on YouTube, so I don’t see me importing it into a game just yet.
Q. How often is your favorite IRL sports team and favorite team to play in-game the same?
A. My favorite team is actually one of the better teams in the game of Madden, so I don’t use them too often. When you do, and post it on YouTube, people claim you’re only winning because of the top tier team you chose, so sadly, I don’t use my 49ers that often.
Q. Do you think motion sensor gaming could really work with the games that you feature on your channel? Like having to actually dribble/pass/shoot a ball? Or would it just be an epic fail?
A. I can see that definitely being an epic fail. As far as I’m concerned.
Q. And finally, if you could play any sport professionally, and be on any professional team, what would you play and where would be?
A. I would want to play baseball, and be on my favorite team. New York Mets. I would want to be an outfielder. Baseball is my favorite sport to watch, and well…me being on the Mets isn’t going to hurt us that much seeing as how we stink.
We won’t be surprised if we find a few more MLB videos on your channel after that last answer! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions, MrGoldenSports. Be sure to check out his channel for all things Madden!
