Hi there everyone, if anyone is recording PC I suggest Dxtory, it is much much better than fraps because of its flexibility, it records multiple audio tracks so its great for commentary, and you can choose what Video codec you can use (I recommend http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html because it makes the file size even smaller) if you plan on getting it. It doesn't take up as much resources for your computer as fraps does, so your game will be much more smoother than recording with fraps (I lose only 5-15 frames when recording), I record all my gameplay with Dxtory (check out my channel to see what the quality is on youtube, heres one of my vids using Dxtory: )

Also the only main con for Dxtory is that it might not be super easy to use, when I first tried it I found it difficulty to use, but once I learned how to use it I fell in love with it and found it vastly superior to Fraps in every way.

This isn't an ad for Dxtory, I just think that more people should use it to make their video quality better, its so good that it actually made me want to tell everyone to use it.

DxTory is the BEST PC recorder out there! It is so light on your system and allows for the most FPS in a game when recording. I record BF3 on Ultra 720 and i still get 60fps and I am running on a 560ti and i7-930 6GB Memory.....

I agree that dxtory is a better video recorder when you want to play the game smoother while recording however it is not as good of a video quality as fraps, I will still choose fraps over dxtory any day.

I'll give this a shot! I just got a computer that can stream with xsplit and record with fraps at the same time at 30 FPS so I'm super excited to try anything and everything :p... Maybe I'll switch! I do love programs that allow you to choose EVERYTHING as I'm an extremely technical guy.

    Thanks for sharing man!

EDIT: I really love the options on this bad boy! Damn! I get 60FPS in WoW with high settings in a Battleground, thats pretty epic. However, the video/file write FPS is only around 25, whats up with that?

This actually helps us out a lot. We were considering using Fraps, but this seems better.

I think you can set the video write fps in the video tab

I tried DxTory but no matter what setting I put, it always got stuck at around 23FPS. Fraps usually gives me quite a bit more.

I switched to Dxtory for Minecraft recording from FRAPS and got a very good boost to my FPS which was very pleasing. You can also use Dxtory as a "camera" in your XSplit settings (instead of using a "screen region") and you can have a boost to your FPS whilst streaming too.

With Xsplit on it's own I struggled to stream, but using DXtory I can just about stream at an acceptable level :)

When I tried out Dxtory, the file sizes were humongus. A lot bigger than what Fraps produces. We are talking 20 GB for a minute of recording, which is way too excessive. What kind of settings do you have in Dxtory to get smaller file sizes?

I set it up to do more or less the same as FRAPS. I used to record at 30fps / half size with FRAPS. These are my DXtory settings:

    Movie Setting Tab:

Lagarith Lossless Codec (set at YUY2 with only Multithreading selected)
    Key Frame Rate 15
    Quality 100
    Data Rate 0
    Clip Size 1280x720
    Frame Rate 30 FPS
Select File Output & DirectShow Output
    File Format: AVI
    Scaling 50%

Check out my latest video (linked in my sig) if you want to see the quality. When I render in Vegas I set it all as 1280x720 even though the recording is at 50% and it looks great to me - hope this helps :)

Hmm... I still enjoy MSI Afterburner over FRAPS and Dxtory. Just my opinion. Plus MSI Afterburner is free... and the file sizes for a 10+min video is not even 2gb.

Ah see, I do it differently. Instead of running full game resolution (which might possibly make my computer keel over), I just record the game while playing in 1280x720. That way, I limit Fraps filesize, my computer can better handle it strain, and I don't have a higher video resolution that just gets compressed anyways.

I'm sort of waiting for a "but" on this one.. :p

Well, how does it run then? How big is a 1 minute video file in 720p?
